OK. Thanks Max! It's unbelievable Mihin hasn't announce the route in advance. Normally airline has to do the official announcement for new destination in two months before the launch. @4R-SRD - Could be please check if the Mihin's Medan flight is showing on GDS ?

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jakarta conducted a Tourism Promotion Campaign at the Embassy premises with the assistance of the General Sales Agent of Mihin Lanka (Pvt) Ltd where leading travel agents and tour operators based in Jakarta attended the event. It is noted that Mihin Lanka having commenced its operations with only 2 frequencies per week in 2010, now operates 6 frequencies to Jakarta and will be increased to 7 frequencies with effect from 1st May 2013. Apart from this, two additional frequencies to Medan, the Capital City of North Sumatra Province is also being explored - asia tribune

I thought the same, unless Medan-Colombo route aiming on Indonesian Passengers who fly to Gulf via Colombo. @Sakith - Mihin Lanka website says inaugural flight to Medan started from today. Is this correct ?

Melbourne is a Goldmine and UL will profit going in there compared to other routes it currently fly. I worked at GS at the Main Int airport and me be a Lankan at Heart i know this will become a top route for sure.

Mihin - I am strongly convinced, is flying to parts of Indonesia for carrying things other than pax I maybe wrong though

And as said, if you see the pax transitting through UL, it is Indonesians and Filipinos .. no clue again how they secure the seats ..

                              http://www.dailynews.lk/2013/05/10/bus04.asp

DailyNews.lk: Mihin Lanka will launch nonstop services between Medan and Colombo from May11, bringing access to a range of exciting destinations to the North Sumatra capital.

The seasonal service would initially operate twice weekly on board Airbus A321 aircraft until July 31, and will again resume later. With the introduction of Mihin's new route, customers from Medan no longer need to backtrack to a busy Asian airport, to access their favourite overseas destinations.

The flights would operate every Wednesday and Saturday.

Opening the longest ever nonstop route into Medan, Mihin will enable Medan residents to access a wide range of worldwide destinations beyond Colombo with quick and convenient connections, in partnership with its sister carrier SriLankan Airlines. In addition to frequent flights to popular destinations such as Jeddah and Dammam - Mihin will offer easy access to over 50 destinations in the Middle East, Europe and India.

Mihin already flies daily between Colombo and Jakarta, a route which it has been serving since 2010. Commenting on the new route's launch, Mihin Lanka's Chief Executive Officer, Kapila Chandrasena said, "It has become clear that Mihin Lanka is one of the first airline choices for Indonesians to visit Middle Eastern and South Asian countries and we are confident that Medan customers too will prefer Mihin's best value product with most affordable fares. Our new service to Medan is a testament to the success of our existing Jakarta service and the continued support of the community."

Mihin has won a firm reputation for excellent service and continues to differentiate itself from other low-fare airlines by offering a complimentary meal and a free baggage allowance for each passenger.
