WEAIR Launch Marks Major Boost for Sri Lanka’s Air Cargo and Logistics Sector
The arrival of WEAIR in Sri Lanka represents a significant investment that will strengthen the country's air cargo capacity and regional connectivity, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath said.

The Minister made these remarks while attending the inauguration ceremony of the Luxembourg-backed project recently.

WEAIR is set to operate as a Sri Lanka-based cargo airline, connecting Colombo with key destinations across South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Indian Ocean region, the Middle East, and Africa.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Herath noted that the project reflects growing international confidence in Sri Lanka’s economic potential and strategic location. He emphasized that the initiative would support the country’s ambitions to become a regional logistics hub while enhancing trade, exports, tourism-related supply chains, and cargo transportation services.

The Minister also highlighted the company’s potential to generate employment opportunities and contribute to the development of Sri Lanka’s aviation and logistics sectors.

Representatives of WEAIR, investors, industry stakeholders, and officials from the aviation and logistics sectors attended the event.

WeAir recently updated their website nicely. Is there any news on the arrival of their first aircraft?

4R-ANE is geeting ready for UL Revenue service, because Aircraft ADS-B Transponder was switched on on last few days in UL 747 Hangar.

After about a year since ALT was delivered to UL, I'm seeing it do a long-haul with UL rather than medium-haul or regional for the first time. I guess we'll see her operate to LHR, NRT and so on from today onwards? Or has it already operated long haul before this?

6hrs delay, as ALH was hit by lightning last night and was diverted back to CMB.

Probably a quite strong Lightning strike and damages to Engine 01.

I'm quite surprised UL didn't use an A333 to SYD on June 12th, when this incident happened.

                          It was 4R-ALH.

If I am not mistaken, is 4R-ALL was in the CMB B747 hangar for landing gear replacement? Regarding 4R-ALH, it had to return to Colombo shortly after departure on June 12, 2026, after a lightning strike affected one of its engines. Is 4R-ALH parked currently in the CMB-B747 hangar for maintenance?

Just a quick update to let you know that 4R-ANB has been back in service since 14-Jun.
