Thai smile are to introduce Business class, they are giving up LCC model.
Air Canada, Air Jamaica and Turkish Airlines, the aircraft belong to ILFC.
Would BA 767 / 787 be better to CMB?

What can I say...GOSL/UL must be thinking that as they feed garbage to Sri Lankan residents they could do the same internationally, I would really want to know what were they (UL management and min of civil aviation) thinking...end of the day UL insurance premium will go up.

Hmm... this means that they will be sending a smaller aircraft to CMB. I have once flown from BKK-CMB on Thai, onboard an A300, which I very much enjoyed. Recently, they have been sending A330s and 777-300s on this route. I wonder if they will increase the frequency of the route with the smaller plane? Currently TG only flies several times a week. They seem like they are now using ThaiSmiles for more regional routes throughout Southeast Asia and the Subcontinent. I wonder if this will be good for UL?Comment

Actually the current trend in the Middle East and Asia is to promote frequency, hence the use of smaller aircrafts with daily frequency rather than wide bodies operating 2-3 times a week. This is a sign of a maturing traveler base whose lifestyle is becoming more sophisticated.
Gone are the days when people made travel decisions months in advance (even for VFR) and stuck with those plans. Now the decisions are made impromptu and dates change as they go by, hence the need for daily flights.
We saw this fragmentation taking place in the US in the late 80s and early 90 resulting in their domestic operations (including transcon) almost completely taken over by the narrow bodies and regional jets / props.Comment

Well they are cannibalizing the parts. They took off the PAC of DA to replace another PAC in DL if I'm not mistaken. And one of the engines are also removed, to replace an engine of DG I think. It's still hanging in there, I see people working in it in the hangar. Mostly on the bulk cargo since that's where it suffered the "bulk" of the damage.Comment

regarding the 4R-ADA a/c incident its out on the sunday times broadsheet today...just read it in the morning, plus another UL a/c which took off from AUH, AUH airport warned of a possible puncture when the a/c would land at CMB coz debris was found on the AUH runway after UL took off, but when it landed at BIA, nothing as such was reported as in it landed safely. All this in the article today morning....XDComment

The loss-making Mihin Lanka is negotiating with the Treasury to buy three new aircraft, including a Boeing, on lease, the airline’s chairman Nishantha Wickremesinghe said yesterday. “We have to compete with other international airlines. Therefore we should have a young fleet. We are negotiating with the Treasury to obtain financial assistance for the lease,” Mr. Wickremesinghe told the Sunday Times. He said the airline’s present fleet comprised three aging aircraft which needed to be replaced. Mr. Wickremesinghe said he would not be able to comment about the amount involved as talks with the manufacturers were still going on. Losses of Mihin Lanka increased by almost two fold to Rs 1.9 billion in 2011/2012 in comparison to 2010/2011.Comment
