Temporary terminal at BIA to ease congestion, the second terminal at the BIA had to be cancelled
A temporary terminal would be built at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake within six months as a solution to the increasing congestion at the airport, He told Parliament that the contract undertaken by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to build the second terminal at the BIA had to be cancelled as its estimate was 45 per cent higher than that of the government engineers.We will call for tenders again for the construction of the second terminal which will take another four to five years to complet The minister said they were studying the possibility of constructing the second runway at the BIA to cater to the increasing demand.

I have noticed a few construction works are currently going on at CMB. Please take a look.
Pic - 1 & 2. Location is next to Air force base. I think this is for 2nd runway ?
Pic - 3 & 4. Preparation of Apron E is mostly done.
Pic - 5 : Location is Next to Aircraft hangar. Is it the proposed Domestic terminal ?
Are you sure they are building another runway? I don't think there is enough room, maybe it is a domestic terminal. Anyone else have recent pictures or video of the airport? I'm in the USA and I would love to see. I'll be in Colombo in 11 days!Leave a comment:
