Minister Ranatunga said that the roof of the terminal, originally planned to be designed in the shape of a lotus flower, had been reconstructed in the shape of banana leaves incurring a cost of Rs. 660 million under the aegis of Fmr. State Minister of Civil Aviation Ashok Abeysin

Yea the political changes definitely didn't help the construction. Now the best option would be to go for the cheaper and quicker design whichever it is.

I agree, very confusing. Aesthetically, the Lotus design is more pleasing. But so what! Not yet a candidate for MAI coverage!
Very confusing... how can there be a loss from something that hasn't been built yet and who is losing the Rs.31bn? Is this due to the claimed 5 year delay in the construction start-up? Loss of revenue in aviation and / or non-aviation revenues? Maybe a saving can be realized if the Banana Leaf design is simpler / cheaper than the original Lotus Leaf roof design. But a loss...?Leave a comment:

Is this good for the aviation sector in Hambantota?
may be chinese airlines will fly to HRI to transport the tyre factory workers.
Sri Lanka announced Tuesday the first large-scale Chinese investment in manufacturing in the country, a $300-million tyre factory near a strategic deep-sea port.
