Guys, can you please share your opinion about the lotus design and Banana Leaf Design. Which is suitable for our international airport ? I would like to also know why Lotus design was changed to Banana leaf design by the Sri Lanka Government.

Conversion of Lotus to Banana leaf at BIA results in loss of over Rs. 31 Billion
Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga told Parliament that a delay of five years in the construction of the roof of the second terminal of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayeke has resulted in a loss of nearly Rs.31 billion.
Minister Ranatunga said that the roof of the terminal, originally planned to be designed in the shape of a lotus flower, had been reconstructed in the shape of banana leaves incurring a cost of Rs. 660 million under the aegis of Fmr. Govt. says in talks with int’l airline companies to commence operations at Mattala
Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said today the government is having discussions with international airline companies to commence operations at Mattala.
Speaking in Parliament, the Minister said both the Katunayake and Mattala Airports would be used to bring down tourists once the country is reopened for tourism.
He said 15,039 passenger operations were handled at the Mattala Airport so far this year.
Meanwhile, he said the government would also develop the Jaffna and Batticaloa Airports.

Bandaranaike International Airport departure public concourse area is open for visitors
Sat, Dec 5, 2020, 10:13 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.
Dec 05, Colombo: The public concourse area at the departure terminal of the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) is open for visitors with effect from 09.00 a.m. Saturday, 05th December, 2020.
Passengers are advised to bring only one visitor per passenger to the public lounge.
Further, visitors are advised to adhere to the health practices and guidelines implemented by the airport in addition to wearing a face mask and maintaining social distance at all times when using the airport.
Meanwhile, repatriation passengers are allowed to order Duty Free items & make the payment on their arrival at BIA.
Confectionery, perfume & cosmetics are allowed to be purchased and carried by passengers directly or get collected through a nominated family member/associate.
Due to strict health guidelines, the other products that can be purchased by the passengers have to be collected from the airport via a nominated family member/associate.
Nominated family member/associate can collect the purchased items from a designated location at the airport arrival area by contacting the relevant personnel of the Duty-Free shops at the airport.

The US dollar 306 million Japanese funded Phase II of Bandaranaike International Airport Expansion project, finally commenced last week and is to be completed in three years.

The Cabinet that met on Monday (30) has approved to allocate 200 acres to the Sri Lanka Air Force from lands owned by the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) Co-cabinet spokesman, energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila said.
