for the first time in history an Emirates A380 landed at Katunayake today morning for refuel while en route from Sydney to Dubai! and wikipedia says that emirates will replace the B777s with A380 s for Colombo Dubai route when the new runaway extension at Katunayake is Built !

Wow!! So CMB runway can handle the A380..

The world’s largest passenger airline, Airbus A380 landed at the Bandaranaike International Airport yesterday for refuelling. This is the first time an Airbus A380 made a landing in Sri Lanka’s aviation history. The airbus belonging to Emirates Airlines was on its way to Dubai from Sydney.

Deccan to launch international in cargo flights

Deccan Aviation Lanka is looking at launching intentional logistics and cargo flights to the region and beyond this year. The airline hopes to lease out a suitable aircraft for this purpose.

The airline has announced firm plans to commence daily scheduled operations to Jaffna in 2012. “For this purpose, we are currently looking at purchasing a 12 to 14 seater commuter aircraft in a few months,” he said.

happy new year 2012 to all. i am joining u from madurai. south india.
we are very happy to get inter national connections first from CMB-IXM soon ( srilankan official said)
within apirl. our new airport terminal gets all facilities to handle intl passengers. so madurai people count the days. srilankan chairman nishanth wilkramasinghe told we may announce the date at Thai Pongal last month at trichy to Tamilnadu Chamber of Commerce team (madurai ). so guys if u all get the details further please share with us throu this forum. thankyou.

What has happened to the front of the plane? Has the paint been rubbed off? Was this a scheduled flight making an unscheduled landing for fuel or an emergency landing?

And for the reason for the landing .. possibly .. possibly .............

A colleague was dropping bits and pieces that the A380 rushed off before the curfew and had to forego a full load of fuel, as there was a refuelling-stoppage at SYD, dunno why .. . and probably EK decided to leave with less than enough fuel than to miss the curfew .. than to wait till morning to depart .. As we used to do in another place - rush the plane off than sit it out through the night .. sometimes with less than a full load of cargo .. leaving behind some late deliveries .. (of course, cargo doesn't complain of a day or two delay .. unless perishable .. )

Again, that's what I heard ..

Enough legs to reach CMB .. and CMB has a full 380 on the ground .. whatever the circumstances ..

Mihin Lanka Revises its Network

Sri Lankan carrier Mihin Lanka is to make some amendments to its schedule from February 1, 2012, boosting capacity to some markets, relaunching a couple of seasonal services into India and cancelling its daily link between Colombo and Male in the Maldives. The low-cost venture, formed in April 2007, is controlled by the Sri Lankan Government and specialises in serving cities in the Indian subcontinent, the Gulf States and Southeast Asia using a fleet of Airbus A320 and A321 equipment.

The airline will offer twice weekly seasonal services from Colombo to Gaya, the second largest city in India’s state of Bihar, located around 100 kilometres south of the provincial capital Patna (until April 1, 2012) and a twice weekly connection to Varanasi, a city situated on the banks of the River Ganges in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh (until March 30, 2012).

Elsewhere, its flights to the Indonesian capital Jakarta will be increased from three to four a week, links to Sharjah will grow from two to three a week, although flights on the combined Dubai and Kuwait route will reduce from five to four a week.

Emirates in a statement issued from Colombo said yesterday:"An Emirates Airbus A380 aircraft on a flight from Sydney to Dubai made a scheduled landing at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake early this morning (9th January) for re-fuelling. The refueling stop was scheduled before the flight’s departure from Sydney."

"This represents the first landing of an Airbus A380 aircraft in Sri Lanka. Emirates thanks and commends the Airport & Aviation authorities and ground handling staff at the Bandaranaike International Airport for their efficiency, which enabled the flight to be refuelled and take off in 53 minutes."

Royal Jordanian is Summer 2012 season effective 25MAR12 is to operate 3 weekly A330-200 service on Amman – Colombo route. In Summer 2011 season this route was operating at 4 weekly level with A310. The A310 is being retired from late-March 2012.
