SriLankan Airlines will increase its fleet to 30 aeroplanes within a few years in accordance with the airlines sector development plan, Civil Aviation Minister Priyankara Jayaratne said.

The minister was addressing media yesterday at the Civil Aviation Ministry. He said that initiatives are under way to increase the fleet up to 30, in line with the Airline's five year development plan introduced in 2010.

In accordance with the five year plan, the annual passenger transaction rate will also be doubled by 2015.

LHR cut is the most significant change to me. Any reason? this is UL's high traffic route. Also the late night arrival basically cut all the north American connections. Why? Did UL lost landing slots?

This is a big puzzle for me too.

              I mean reducing LHR flights.

Yeap. I think its because of the middle east giants. Emirates offers A380 to LHR, QR offers most lowest and prices to LHR. Also EY, WY, GF doing their job well in the South Asian market to and from the LHR.

May be you are right, but this is a massive cut, not just a reduction. This will basically make AC/UL code-share via LHR redundant. Can this be just a temporary cut until winter season where they can afford the downtime for refurb work????

Yes SriLankan finsihed this SPA with BMI in late 2011 - too one sided in BMI favour & little through traffic for SriLankan

Reduction in LHR flights not surprising - have you soon the taxes ex UK ? - they are just crazy
SriLankan make make better revenues on flights to Beijing , Shanghai & Guangzhou + the Chinese Govt likes to assit Sri Lanka !!!!!!!

LHR is becoming increasingly un-attractive for airlines (due to extremely high costs) as well as to passengers (due to delays, inconveniences and lost luggage) and this trend has been apparant for a while now. Most transit passengers to US are jumping planes in Middle East.

Besides, it is well known that UL has been accumulating massive loses on thieir CMB-LHR-CMB route, so I guess this is the right thing to do. London is not the center of the world anymore (far from it) and there really is no justification for 12 weekly flights just to cater the O&D traffic.
