And as said, if you see the pax transitting through UL, it is Indonesians and Filipinos .. no clue again how they secure the seats ..

DailyNews.lk: Mihin Lanka will launch nonstop services between Medan and Colombo from May11, bringing access to a range of exciting destinations to the North Sumatra capital.

The seasonal service would initially operate twice weekly on board Airbus A321 aircraft until July 31, and will again resume later. With the introduction of Mihin's new route, customers from Medan no longer need to backtrack to a busy Asian airport, to access their favourite overseas destinations.

The flights would operate every Wednesday and Saturday.

Opening the longest ever nonstop route into Medan, Mihin will enable Medan residents to access a wide range of worldwide destinations beyond Colombo with quick and convenient connections, in partnership with its sister carrier SriLankan Airlines. In addition to frequent flights to popular destinations such as Jeddah and Dammam - Mihin will offer easy access to over 50 destinations in the Middle East, Europe and India.

Mihin already flies daily between Colombo and Jakarta, a route which it has been serving since 2010. Commenting on the new route's launch, Mihin Lanka's Chief Executive Officer, Kapila Chandrasena said, "It has become clear that Mihin Lanka is one of the first airline choices for Indonesians to visit Middle Eastern and South Asian countries and we are confident that Medan customers too will prefer Mihin's best value product with most affordable fares. Our new service to Medan is a testament to the success of our existing Jakarta service and the continued support of the community."

Mihin has won a firm reputation for excellent service and continues to differentiate itself from other low-fare airlines by offering a complimentary meal and a free baggage allowance for each passenger.

Cruise tourism is NOT always a win-win situation ..

90% or more of the tourists who transfer don't want to step out of the plane and get to the cruise ship - no dilly-dallying there .. and that's the experience of one of the large cruise centers in the region ..

Though the numbers will drive up 'arrivals' figure ..

btw, to get cruise pax, I wonder how the Port is geared to handle Cruise ships .. do they have a dedicated Cruise terminal ?

Anyway, I happened to see this .. seems CMB port is busy in it's own way

colombo port is dedicated to cargo for over a century.....but hambantota is new and can be promoted for cruise ships as it is close to Galle, Hikkaduwa, Mattara, Arugam Bay and Yala

The Twin Otter is removed from service in end of April. The aircraft must be in Koggala now removing floats and fixing wheels before leaving Sri Lanka.
I heard C-GLKB has now been returned to the YTH on 10-12 May 2013, after lease to SriLankan Airtaxi.

well, there are only 2 reasons Cruise passengers would leave the ship - 1) to transfer to a plane or vice-versa, or 2) to visit places of interest "NEARBY" or shopping "NEARBY" .. preferably for a day tour at the most-they get on board the cruise to relax on the ship, not to spend time on land ...

Well, for 2, I don't get the idea Hambantota harbour has shopping malls / places of interest ..
