I know regional carriers now doing upto 4 hours plus on 321s .. and it is NOT a crazy idea ..That is an crazy idea on both capacity as well as range. It could be used for medium/long haul and A330 s can be used for long haul. Even A321 as narrow body cannot provide better business class experience. Anybody know about configs? Are they going to use same QR business seating?
And the carriers I worked with have reconfigured with 12 Business (2+2 with AVOD) and 18 Premium Economy (3X3 with AVOD) and 169 regular economy (3X3 with no AVOD)
the first 30 seats are always sold out, and so is more than half of the economy, most of the times ..
so .. see, it works.
Agreed, they dropped the economy prices to near LCC, but hey, if they can fill it and make it worth the 321's cost, why not ?
and it beats trying harder to fill another 75 to 100 seats, on their next capacity plane.Comment

Funny - UL's time table CMB to PEK is showing Mattala and BKK as technical stops. To my knowledge, technical stops are mainly for fuel (and in some cases crew change).Comment

Hello guys - I have a choice to select the following options on my return trip from SL this summer;
CMB - BKK - PEK on TG (TG Smile 320 & TG's old 747)
or
CMB - HRI - BKK - PEK (UL - 340)
Both seems to same price range - Y Class. Any recommendations based on your recent trips?Comment

Any source besides Wikipedia? Bad news if true. MJ should take a few more A320s and fly to secondary cities in countries such as India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, China and Myanmar. 777s and 737s would add expenditure that MJ can ill afford at this point.http://www.dailynews.lk/business/mih...w-boeings-2015

First of all, Mihin should be dissolved and their operations should be absorbed in to that of UL's.
Secondly, why on earth do they want to acquire Boeing aircraft when UL is fully equipped to maintain Airbuses?
(I have nothing against Boeing, and they are fantastic aircraft, but for Mihin, it does not make sense at all to re-invent the wheel)
Thirdly, long-haul operations? They really should be smoking some serious hallucinogens

I guess the management simply doesn't understand what their doing
but apparently the say they can cover the cost of the Boeing Aircraft
Caption from the Daily News Article:-
He said that although there will be an additional cost for upgrading the ‘Boeings’, they can be able to cover this cost. “The new Boeings will give a better fuel consumption and its operation costs too will be low,” he added. - See more at: http://www.dailynews.lk/business/mih....bJObZN1u.dpuf- Aaqib Hussain

Well, they are actually code-sharing with UL .. traffic from JKT via MJ are dumped to UL ..
they are interested because there are a few 777-200 ERs coming in the second hand market .. at attractive lease rates .. why loose it, when you can add in a 5% somewhere ?
Somebody knows something somewhere .. you and me can't do nothign about it anyway..I guess the management simply doesn't understand what their doing
