If UL wants to stray off the mainstream (i.e. Boeing and Airbus) the only other viable solution would be to acquire a fleet of ERJs for South India and perhaps Soth East Asia runs and free up A320s to take up some of the short haul slots flown by A332. ERJs are the small capacity examples to handle the demand of South India Traffic. In my opinion UL must need to get a few more A320s to strengthened the regional network where money can be made. But I agree with you that newer A332 could be deployed on A343 routes after ageing A343s end the lease-term with UL. Korean Air agreed to operate A330-300 aircraft with 3 direct flights a week (Monday, Thursday and Saturday) from mid December 2012.

SriLankan Airlines and Mihin Lanka would be re routing their European and Gulf flights via Lanka's second International Airport in Mattala from next year.
“Mihin and SriLankan want to be the first two airlines to operate via Mattala,” said Nishantha Wickramasinghe, Chairman SriLankan.
He said that they would treat Mattala as a fully fledged international airport and traffic would be diverted there. “However we will not compromise Colombo operations and the passengers would have the option of embarking and disembarking at both airports,” he said. Wickramasinghe said that the opening of Mattala would stimulate not only tourism but also other sector of the Southern, Uva, Sabaragamuwa and the Eastern provinces.
He said that in addition to diverting their flights they would also be in charge of catering, ground handling ,cargo and are also looking at setting up an engineering facility (MRO) with an international partner. “We will also look at an airline training school,” he said.
The airline would employ over 250 for these operations and recruiting is in progress.
I didn't think they would be this insane, but they actually are, and are really going to do this. Oh dear lord.

On the plus side this will only increase business for Emirates, Qatar etc. The way UL behaves and acts, it deserves to tank completely. Though it will cost the public a lot, a crap airline is what it is.Comment

Re-read what he has said, passengers will be given the option of embarking or disembarking at BOTH airports. I am assuming he means the flights will land at CMB and then Mattala and vice versa.Originally posted by Praetorian View Post
