Good move from UL! I think UL soon should start nonstop flights to Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai.
On a different note, does anybody know why 4R-ALA not in service since 3-June-2013 ?Comment

Maldives national airline to begin Gan-Colombo flights
The Maldives' national airline will begin operating direct flights between Gan of Addu atoll and Sri Lankan capital Colombo on August 7, President Mohamed Waheed Hassan announced Sunday.
Speaking at a ceremony in Addu atoll Gan to inaugurate the Addu International Airport development project, the president said it would be better for ‘Maldivian’ to operate Gan-Colombo flights than SriLankan Airlines, which has also expressed interest in the route.
“Based on the discussions [held between the two parties], we saw it better to allow our national airline to operate flights between Gan and Colombo,” he said.
At the ceremony, Transport Minister Amin Ibrahim handed over the license to Maldivian to operate flights between Gan and Colombo.

Exactly correct! SriLankan Airlines was considering to serve the CMB-GAN-MLE route but Maldivian strongly objected to the issuing of domestic license to foreign airlines and warned that local airlines could go bankrupt as a result of such a decision.Comment
